Event reports since last InfoMail:

The English Open (3-5 June)
Julian Fetterlein notches up another Main victory.

Biba World Championship (1-3 July)
Chris Ternel makes it to his third consecutive Final and is thwarted from winning it for a second time by Peter Bennet.

Liverpool Open (30-31 July)
 Although the event was 12 days ago I am waiting on a report (and some more results); however, it's congratulations to Brian Lever on his record-breaking 4th win.

The SAC Trophy (5-7 August)
Julian Fetterlein, the only player on 5-5 was robbed of 1st place by Chris Ternel in the 6th Round. The tie-breaker then placed him 2nd to Mike Heard's 1st.

The Biba Backgammon Tour (ongoing)
Dan Tutchings keeps his #1 slot, and Brian Lever (Liverpool winner) jumps in at #2. Kevin Jones come in at #3 as Martin Barkwill and Phil Tutchings go down to #5 & #8 and Neil Webb down to #4. Alastair Woods comes in at #6 with Simon K Jones at #7. The next BBT event is the September, "Hinckley Five-O" which promises to be a good turnout, especially as it has £500 added prize money and a Winner-Takes-All Rollover of £195! Accommodation is expected to go rapidly, so please book early.m

Latest on Lewis: He is currently in the States recovering from his operations and doing very well indeed. He is undergoing a gruelling physiotherapy regime which will see him eventually leading a normal, wheelchair-free life -- all thanks (in part) to your efforts. Forthcoming Biba Events
The Hinckley Five-O (2-4 September) - An event to celebrate the 50th birthdays this year of its sponsors, Wayne Felton and Dod Davies. They have gernerosuly added £500 Prize Money, and there is also a £195 Winner-Takes-All Rollover up for grabs. Turnout for this event is expected to be high, so please book accommodation as soon as you can.

Just a few things to tell you about before I leave for my holidays . . . .

County Cups Trophy (6-8 May)

Another of Biba's national titles, offering the usual four elements and a guaranteed 1st Prize of £350. In addition to the usual Grand Prix points, this event is also a Biba Backgammon Tour event, giving every entrant the opportunity to gain points towards theGrand Final in January next year for the Top 8 players. Accommodation take-up is expected to be high so please reserve your room as soon as possible. NB: This event also features the draw of the Biba Backgammon Board Raffle (see below for details).Biba World Championship (1-3 July)
If you can't make Monte Carlo, perhaps you can make Hinckley!  It doesn't get bigger than this! This is Biba's third World Championship and yet another guaranteed payout of £500 to the winner.

Fantastic new raffle with a top prize of a Geoffrey Parker board valued at £1125! At the moment we have three boards as prizes and it is hoped that a couple more might also make a donation. However, with the top prize (to date) of the Geoffrey Parker board (a generous donation from Max Parker), and the Dal Negro board donated by The Regency Chess Company, plus the humble, Biba Tournament Board, it is still a pretty good raffle.

 British Open (8-10 April)

All the results and report and photos can be seen HERE including details of the Japan Taunami Appeal. However, I would think that the best bit of news many of you will want to hear is that the Winner-Takes-All prize fund wasn't won and so we have a Rollover of £510 for the next event!

Britsh Champion - Julian Minwalla

I'd like to thank the Open's sponsor, playwsob for supporting the event and for supplying the trophies and online money credits for some of the winners.

County Cups Trophy (6-8 May)
The second of the year’s four Swiss Format events. Not only do entrants get to play 6 x 11 point matches, but the winner qualifies for the Christmas UK Finals in December with entry into the Last 16 plus two night’s accommodation for the price of one. But what interests you more is the Rollover of £510, which will almost double over the weekend, isn't it?

Lewis and his brother, James, are giving mum, Ann Brierley, a rest from fundraising and are both doing a summer dash on 3 July at Old Trafford Football Ground. James will be running it and Lewis will be in his wheelchair. If everything goes according to plan, the next time Lewis is at Old Trafford he'll be pushing James around in his old chair! If you'd like to make a donation for their efforts, please go to Lewis's final challenge.

Just a quick reminder that there's still time to enter the British Open, 8-10 April. The Main starts @ 13.00 Saturday, with Registration 10.30 to 12.30. Tournament sponsors, playwsob are putting up added (online) prize money and Biba is guaranteeing £500 1st Prize.

On the subject of Help Lewis Walk I was asked a few days back why am I still promoting this when the Japan Tsunami Appeal is more important? My answer? Japan has a worldwide awareness of its tragedy and money - quite rightly - is pouring in. Lewis is one small child hoping to benefit from an appeal that is spearheaded by his mother from their home in Eccles, Manchester. Each is important. Each needs our help.   And, before I leave Lewis, did you donate to the recent Comic Relief's £75m? Did you know that not one penny of that vast sum can be channelled towards Lewis because his operation will take place in the States, and they don't fund overseas operations? With £75 million coming in, Comic Relief is laughing all the way to the bank - Lewis isn't laughing.
